Higgins, Judith Ann (Judy) Of Orono, MN. Born on May 21, 1954 in Minneapolis. She died June 10, 2014, having just reached the ripe old age of 60!

When one is a "scholar" of obituaries as Judy was, it is difficult to imagine that she will approve of her own she avidly read the section every day!

Judy grew up in Hopkins, MN and on her beloved Lake Minnetonka. In later life she and her mom moved permanently to Lake Minnetonka - one of her favorite places on earth. Judy lived life to the fullest and beyond. Some might say she marched to a different drummer - that no grass grew under her feet. She loved the outdoors - boating and fishing on the lake and snowshoeing and x-c skiing in the winter. While family and friends went south to escape the cold winters, Judy instead went north to Lutsen, to her beloved cabin on Lake Superior, where she would find renewal and relaxation. Even when the horrible esophageal cancer became her lot in life almost 2 years ago, she faced that journey head on with tenacity, spirit, and strength beyond comprehension. She was a fighter in the true sense of the word.

She will be greatly missed by all those whose life she touched with her love, her compassion, her generosity and most notably her endless wit. She missed her calling in life, really - she should have been a comedian!

Preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Nancy Higgins, she is survived by her spouse and her longtime partner of 15 years, Barbara Lelek Higgins, brother Stephen (Kathy) of Denver, sister Ging King (Doug) of Edina, her loving nieces Lindsey King Gorski and Brooke Higgins Allen, nephews Stephen Higgins Jr. and Patrick Higgins, along with their wonderful spouses and 9 very special great nieces and nephews. To them she was not Aunt Judy, but known affectionately as Jude or "AJ". Her beloved furry kids will miss her every day as they wait to hear her footfalls down the hall or her whistle - her dogs Deaver, Charlie and Finnegan, her kitties Ted, Petey, and Dot, as will all her dear and wonderful human friends and family near and far.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to her wonderful health care team during this journey - The Mayo Clinic doctors and their staff - David Katzka, MD, Francis C. Nichols, MD, Claude Deschamps, MD formerly of The Mayo Clinic and to her wonderful team at Park Nicollet Clinic in the Twin Cities, Rachael Lerner, MD and Deepti Pandita, MD and all of their staff. The level of care and concern was superb at every juncture along this road. We also wish to thank all of her BTF team on Caring Bridge - BTF representing Judy's motto for her journey, the translation of which is not suitable for print! You guys, who flocked to her site and read about her journey, inspired her and gave her strength and courage to keep fighting. Daniel Anthony Schug died in his sleep on December 29, 2022.

Dan was a Navy Veteran and was (Honorably) discharged on February 27, 1980.

He is survived by Gary Schug (HHS-1969) and family, Bruce Schug (EHS-1972) and family, Robin Schug (EHS-1975) and George Schug Jr (EHS-1977) and family, and Pamela Schug-Nicholson (EHS-1979) and family, and Shirlee Schug-Farnick (HHS-1984) and family.

NOVEMBER 29, 1953 - FEBRUARY 16, 2024

Clifford Craig Smith, Age 70, originally of Sioux Falls, SD and Hopkins, MN, passed away on February 16, 2024.

He attended Hopkins Eisenhower High School and upon graduation in 1972, indulged his love of recorded music by applying to the distribution center of Amos Heilicher's then-small chain of retail record stores known as Musicland.

Cliff was a dedicated Musicland employee, becoming an aficionado of many types of music, especially garage rock and Classic Country. His amazing memory meant that he could recite most of the Billboard Top 40 charts from 1966 - 1970, his favorite era of music. There wasn't a factoid he couldn't recall, including the release date of a long-forgotten Bob Dylan song or an obscure one-hit wonder. His time at Musicland allowed him to shake hands with numerous celebrities, including Carl Wilson, Mick Jagger, John Mellencamp, and Mitch Miller. In true "Cliff" fashion, he'd casually share the memories as if he'd only met a passerby.

Without a doubt, one of Cliff's most notable traits was his memory. He could recall days in history as if it were yesterday. He knew how many weeks a song spent in the Top 10 charts and how cold it was on your birthday. He knew the exact date the Burger King opened in Hopkins (1971, if you're curious) along with the menu prices (50 cents for a Whopper, amazingly). Cliff loved attending trivia around the Twin Cities and touting his amazing mind.

Cliff loved professional sports, though not necessarily Minnesota teams. The one notable exception was the Minnesota Twins. Cliff was a Twins fan through and through. No matter their record, he would faithfully tune in via television or radio.

Athleticism and sports were in Cliff's blood. He served as a constant VIP on his recreational softball and bowling leagues. As a left-hander, there was no in-field position he couldn't master, including pitcher. His favorite way to spend time with his siblings was at Sunday bowling league.

Cliff was gentle and kind, always there for his siblings and nieces and nephews. He could be counted on to be the devil's advocate about almost anything, with steadfast assurance as to why his position was right.

Cliff is survived by his siblings Mary Smith, Clay (Deb) Smith, Lorene Smith, Tracy (John) Brownrigg, and Teresa (Dave) Heider. Nieces and Nephews, Joseph Johnson, Jill (Sean) Sitek, Scott (Justyne) Smith, J.D. (Isaac) Brownrigg, Jacob Brownrigg, Robin Heider, and Jimmy Heider. He is preceded in death by wife Dora, siblings Matthew Smith and Celeste Johnson; nephew Daniel Johnson; parents David and Margaret Smith.

Service Wednesday, February 21 at 11am, with visitation the hour preceding. Strobeck Johnson Hopkins Chapel, 1400 Main Street. Light reception to follow.

Bill Borman (Buff), Hopkins Lindbergh, Class of 1972, died April 24, 2023 at his home in Evergreen, CO. Three high school classmates attended his service at Evergreen Memorial Park along with his wife Colleen and daughters Jessica and Danielle. He owned and operated Borman Surveying. 51 yrs later, he remained a good friend to numerous classmates.

OCTOBER 7, 1953 - APRIL 19, 2023

McCluske, Timothy Richard 69, of St. Paul. Born 10/07/1953, Tim passed away on 04/19/2023.

Survived by Mary, his wife of 43 years; daughter, Marit; son, Alex (Elizabeth); sister Vicki Jensen and family; friends and colleagues.

Preceded in death by parents Victor and Dolores McCluske.

A 1972 graduate of Hopkins Eisenhower, Tim studied at, and went on to work at the University of Minnesota. He retired in 2021 after 45 years in the University's library system, managing underground storage caverns for millions of items from libraries across the state. His motto was "Ask questions, seek help, make mistakes, repeat as necessary."

Tim's creativity shone in every aspect of his life. A skilled carpenter, his work was beautifully constructed and integrated into its surroundings. His gardens nurtured the spirit; for the body, he was an amazing chef. A lifelong learner, inventive photographer, music lover, constant reader, teller of Dad-jokes, his proudest, most joyful work was his family. He held on until he knew our foundation was strong. Tim built us a wonderful life.

JUNE 14, 1954 - FEBRUARY 7, 2024

Born June 14th,1954 to Les and Charlotte LaBoda passed away peacefully the morning of February 7th, 2024, with his wife of 49 years Connie (Brush, LHS-1972), and sons Jesse and Matt by his side.

Scott grew up in Hopkins and Golden Valley, Minnesota, graduating from Hopkins Lindbergh High School in 1972. On March 16th, 1974, Scott and Connie were married starting their lives together in St. Louis Park then moving to New Hope, Minnesota where they have been residents since.

He started his post-high school education graduating from both Anoka Technical College and North Hennepin Community College. His lifelong passion for learning found him participating in evening classes at St. Thomas University earning his BA on May 21st, 1993, and then master’s from St. Mary’s University on January 19th, 2000, all while working full-time and having a family with two small boys.

From an early age he was an enthusiastic history buff spanning many subjects, but particularly gave most of his attention to Napoleon, even taking his family to many different Napoleonic conventions as summer vacations. In addition to Napoleon, he was always up for a good Saturday morning car show or impromptu discussion about cars with his boys or friends. He loved all varieties of music, played the trumpet in the high school band, including Stage Band, and taught trumpet at Buds Music in Hopkins.

Scott was an avid reader, loving all types of books. You would often find him reading a book that he had read before but found enjoyment reading it again and it was not unusual to see him reading a couple of books at the same time. He also enjoyed watching movies and favorite old TV shows like Walker Texas Ranger, Spencer for Hire, Nash Bridges and of course car shows.

He loved coaching sports for both boys, Jesse in Baseball and Matt in Baseball/Soccer for many years. Those experiences were not just about the boys as he also built strong lifelong friendships with co-coaches Lee Jordan, Mark Haggerty, Neil Kay, and Larry McAtee. Those relationships are ones he cherished and strengthened for many years after coaching.

Scott found his passion for sales when he got the opportunity to join Norstan and later Peoplenet. He found great professional accomplishment and pride working for such great organizations and building a professional network with colleagues, some of which became lifelong friends.

He loved his sons very much and was so proud of them. He always believed in them, was proud of the young men they became, their accomplishments and what great dads and husbands they are. It meant so much to him that they were able to be friends as they got older, always wanting only the best in life for them. He loved every minute spent with them and will be watching them forever.

Scott’s other favorite role was being “Papa.” He adored his four grandchildren and loved spending time with them whether watching and cheering them on at baseball, basketball, or soccer, reading to them, having a tea party, and of course playing with them at the park or just having them around playing. He will forever love them, be with them every day and watch over them.

While his passing came too early, he was able to fulfill a couple of lifelong dreams. In 2013, he and Connie (Brush, LHS-1972) were able to fulfill a lifelong travel dream in Paris. And as part of his 60th birthday celebration in 2014 he was able to drive a red Ferrari 360 Modena on the Exotics Racing Racetrack in Las Vegas.

All through his long 17-month journey with cancer and kidney failure, Scott held his family up with positivity, courage, strength, hope and love. He always had a great ability to make others smile and his positive attitude will be missed. He and Connie were grateful for everyone who touched him throughout that journey. He managed the end with grace and expressed thankfulness to all his medical team for their knowledge and compassion for himself along with his family.

Anderson, Richard E. "Dick" Age 68, passed away peacefully, from Covid-19, on February 8, 2022, with his family by his side. A life-long resident of Hopkins, Dick graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1972. He attended Hennepin County Vocational Technical Center and earned his degree in the Machinist trade. He was an employee of DeGhetto Engineering beginning 1971. After Bob DeGhetto's passing in 1998, he became sole owner. In 2005, he brought in a business partner and continued until 2018 when they prepared to retire. Dick was driven by his work ethic in the machine shop. He leaves behind a legacy of honesty and striving for excellency. He finished 50 years upon retirement in September, 2021. His passion was the love of the outdoors; hunting, fishing, sharing with and teaching others. Dick touched many lives with his great sense of humor and always had a twinkle in his eye. Giving to others was second nature to him, always lending a hand to everyone he met.

Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Barbara, and his brother Bob. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Anita (Augustin), daughter Trina (James) Needham, grandsons Riley and Connor; brother Ralph (Brenda), sisters Nancy (Ken) French, Dawn (Paul) Korpi, Cindy (Rick) Westmark, nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Ricky (Theresa Horne) Augustin and sister-in-law Pamela Gustin and family. He will be dearly missed by us all; including other family members, friends and business associates. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m.

Peter Aubrecht, died March 29, 2020, La Mesa, CA.

"Today my loving, caring father Peter Jonathan Aubrecht passed away. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer around two years ago after not being able to get food down. After surgery, chemo and radiation they thought they got it all out. Around his 6-month check-up appointment he was having similar problems and eating was a challenge. They found the cancer was back and very aggressive, the cancer had spread and surgery was no longer an option. They diagnosed him with 6-12 months maybe 4 months ago and decided chemo was his best option. He fought through the chemo which was extremely challenging for him given his condition. They ended the chemo and started immunotherapy, but this last week he went downhill quick.

This last week he was pretty unconscious, but yesterday I came home from the hospital and told him about my daughter Maggie being born and that we will be home tomorrow with her and he raised his eyebrows really high. We got released from the hospital and got word he wasn’t doing well and maybe he was hanging on to see Maggie so we rushed to see him.  He was able to meet Maggie and have her in his lap for a few minutes. Maybe 1 hour after they met, and Jessie and her kids left, my mom and I were with him as he took his last breath. I heard he kinda stopped breathing last night, but came gasping back and I truly believe he fought so hard to live a little longer to meet Maggie. I was truly blessed with a loving, caring, supportive father and will strive to be like the man that you were. Thank you for being the best father I could have asked for.

Due to Covid-19 we are unsure about any memorials that will take place. This saddens me because I know there are so many people's lives that you have touched and would love to see the turnout, we will let you know if plans change.

Debra (Baribeau) Black passed away in Torrance, CA. Preceded in death by parents, Benjamin and Lucille; and husband, Gene. Survived by brother, David.

Betty Whittington, 56, of Lead, SD passed away unexpectedly at her home on July 15, 2010.

Betty was born on July 3, 1954 to Victor and Helen (Burkholtz) Berggren in Hopkins, MN. Betty moved to the Black Hills in 1976. In 1983 she married her best friend and soul mate Rick Whittington. Betty enjoyed reading, writing, her plants and watching the Chicago Bears.

Betty and Rick enjoyed camping, hiking, traveling and exploring the hills together. Betty lived well, laughted often and loved much.

Betty is survived by her loving husband Rick; mother Helen Berggren of MN; sisters Deb (Jim) Strain, of Rapid City, Cathy (John) Skvicalo of Lead and Sandy Berggren of MN; brother Terry (Beth-Alison) Berggren of MN; mother and father-in-law Yvonne and Dick; 9 nieces and nephews and a great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her father Vic.

Catherine L. Bertelson, 63, died March 7, 2017 in Thorp from a car accident near her home of Ellensburg, WA. Bertelson was born Feb. 23, 1954 in Minneapolis.

Bertelson was a professor in the Alternative Pathways Program at CWU’s College of Education and Professional Studies. She had worked at CWU since 1984.

CWU President Jim Gaudino put out a statement Tuesday night expressing his condolences. "I join all members of the CWU community in mourning the tragic loss of Professor Catherine Bertelson, who was killed in an automobile accident today," Gaudino said in the statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to all in her family. Catherine was an important member of our faculty and our university community. She will be remembered by all of the many whose lives she touched."

Catherine is survived by her son Chris (age 21).

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory. 

The time has come to raise a glass for the life lived by Tim Bevins. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, farm boy, city boy, wrestler, football player, motorcycle rider, quadriplegic, and liquor store owner. Yet these descriptors only tell you the roles he played, not the impact he had and the lives he touched.

Growing up in North Dakota with his father, James (deceased), and mother June, gave him the opportunity for an adventure-filled start to life with his siblings, Dan (who remained older than him despite his best efforts), Mike (who he gave the lovely nickname Leenus), Julie (who Tim refused to treat differently), and Pat (who he always kept an eye out for). On the farm, Tim learned that you can’t ride a horse onto the porch and “permanently borrowed” a lamb, Sambo, who he trained to walk on leash.

Later, Tim and his family moved to the Twin Cities. Settling in Hopkins, the Bevins family became notorious for their shenanigans.  Tim eventually became the football captain, wrestling captain and coach. Numerous friendships were formed, lasting a lifetime. After high school, Tim jumped on his motorcycle, with his best friend Ron.

Tim’s world was forever changed at 20 years old, when he was involved in a car accident, which left him in a wheel chair.  The accident may had broken his spinal cord, it definitely did not break his spirit. He not only instigated a food fight while in rehab, but also had Ron bring in a keg for a party during a blizzard. Since Tim could no longer work for the bank as a repo guy, he needed to find something else he could do.  As luck would have it, a liquor store came up for sale and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Tonka Bottle Shop, on the corner of Minnetonka Blvd. and Hwy. 101, became his kingdom. He ruled the local liquor and wine world, often holding court at various tastings and either allying with or rattling the surrounding liquor kingdoms. 10 yrs later,Tim added Corcoran Bottle Shop into the mix.

Tim also accrued another family, his employees. Many who worked for Tim became friends; friendships that often far lasted longer than their employment. Both Tonka and Corcoran Bottle Shop benefited from this attitude.

In 1991, he met a gal that would stick around for the long haul, not just as his aid, but would become his wife and advocate. Terri-Lynn (Moore) “accidentally” grabbed the entire advertisement and was hired on the spot. That was the start of a 27 year relationship. Tim came with 2 stores and Terri came with 2 kids, Joseph and Jessica. He asked to marry her when he “put his foot down” (ahem, he had Terri put his foot on the ground). Their family officially began when Terri and Tim got married on May 5, 1995, yet Tim’s family continued to grow as he watched his kids grow, get married and have kids of their own, even extending his family out to a great-grandchild.

Underneath all of that, living 44 years as a quadriplegic took its toll. Somehow, Tim survived another car accident in 2004, a myriad of infections, sepsis, and absurdly massive kidney stones.  It was during the last surgery to remove a kidney stone about the size of a wine cork that complications arose. After almost 4 weeks in ICU, Tim finally went to that final sleep and escaped the tremendous pain he was in.

In order to celebrate his life, the family is foregoing a funeral and having a big ole party with the wine and people that Tim loved. The celebration will be held at Paustis Wines on March 9 from 1-5 pm. In honor of his committment to the Always Lucy Strong Foundation, there will be a fundraiser to show Tim’s dedication to the idea of “because moments matter.” To all who knew him, raise a glass in honor of the man who cared about nearly everyone who crossed his path (even if you didn’t know it because he was razzing you so much). Cheers to a big life well lived Tim!

Phillip James Blien, Jr., 27, Estes Brook Cemetery, Mille Lacs County, MN.

Phil was born December 15, 1953 to Phillip J. (Jim) and Joan Blien in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a small child he could always be found sporting his cowboy shoes, hat and holster complete with 2 six shooters. He especially enjoyed his chemistry set and was driven to take everything apart.  He loved to be in the woods and took any opportunity to go hiking and canoeing. He played cornet and tuba and was on the swim team. He was a talented artist early on, drawing and later sculpting with wire.  At Hennepin Technical he became an accomplished Architectural and Mechanical Draftsman.

Survived by parents Jim & Joan Blien, sister Cynthia (Tim) Draine and brother Tim Blien, Grandparents Phil & Althea Blien, many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, & friends.

He was a gentle soul with a great imagination and wonderful sense of humor. He is greatly missed. Gone too soon.

Services for Ernest J. "Junior" Boese, 55 of St Michael were Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Grove Christian Center in Maple Grove with Rev. Greg Hickle officiating. Casket bearers were Randy Marcos, Ryan Englar, Nathan Englar, David Lueck, Gabe Hutchinson and Kyle Hutchinson.

He was born Nov. 8, 1954, in Mellen, Wis., to Ernest and Gloria (Hines) Boese. He and his family moved to Minnesota when he was five years old.

A Class of '72 graduate of Eisenhower High School in Hopkins, Mr. Boese went on to study art at Normandale Community College. He held various jobs (such as landscaper, store manager, artist, assembler, and more) before going to work for Sungard in Hopkins. He worked there over 29 years, including the day he died.

On Sept. 3, 1983, he married Jeannie Hutchinson at the Assembly of God Church in Hopkins. They were blessed with two sons, with whom Mr. Boese was very involved, for example, coaching baseball with the St Michael/Albertville Youth Association. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, and music. A talented vocalist, he loved singing and did so for many events and churches. As a man of God and integrity, he invested his life in being a good husband and father.

Mr. Boese is survived by wife, Jeannie and sons, Brandon and Aaron; mother and step-father, "Glo" and Jim Stevenson, Hopkins; brother, Steve (Shonda) Stevenson, Long Beach, Calif.; sisters, Sheryl (Scott) Englar, Brooklyn Park; Connie (Ramon) Marcos, Crystal; Tammy Stevenson, Tampa, Fla.; and Terri Stevenson, St Anthony Village; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Boese.

Bolla, Jack age 65 of Minneapolis passed away peacefully August 18, 2019.

Jack is preceded in death by parents, John and Charlotte Bolla. He is survived by sisters, Anne (Peter), Kay (Pat), Jane, Mimi (David) and by nephews and niece; Hunter and Emily Ness, Jeffrey and Kevin Ford.

Greg passed away in February 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Survved by wife, Carla and two sons.

A passion for plants came early for Steve Clemants, who went on to become one of the leading botanists of the day. Born in Minnesota and raised in the towns of Edina and Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Chicago and Normal, Illinois, Steve developed a love of nature as a young boy. He had an affection for the flowers that grew in his family's garden, particularly tulips, but he especially admired wildflowers. Throughout his childhood, his mother, Doris, nurtured his interest, teaching him about local wildflowers and where they grew.

After completing high school in Minnetonka, Steve attended the University of Minnesota. He initially majored in computer science, but he missed the out-of-doors and his nature studies. This led him to change his undergraduate major to botany, his childhood love. His dual interests of botany and computer science served Steve very well later in his career; he was instrumental in developing a number of important databases for plant location records. Steve graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1976 but remained there to pursue a master's degree in botany with a minor in horticulture, which he obtained in 1979.

Steve's botanical pursuits took him to the City University of New York (CUNY) where, working at the New York Botanical Garden with curator James Luteyn, he pursued a doctorate in botany. His graduate work focused on New World members of the blueberry family in the genus Bejaria, and this allowed him to conduct field trips in the tropics. He obtained his doctorate in botany from CUNY in 1984. It was during his graduate studies that his friend and fellow graduate student Brian Boom introduced Steve to Grace Markman, then a volunteer tour guide at the New York Botanical Garden. They later married.

Steve was the leading botanist of our generation and the kindest, most generous spirit I have ever known. How fortunate I was to have married this remarkable person who allowed me to grow into who I needed to become, an artist.

Alan Glenn Cooper, age 66, of Menahga, MN passed away on November 12th, 2019, surrounded by his family. Alan was born in Aberdeen, WA on May 16th, 1953 to Jerry and Aileen (Lokken) Cooper, the second of what would become three children.  Al spent his earliest years in Washington attending Stevens Elementary and then Washington Middle School.  The Cooper family was blessed to have extended family nearby, therefore Al grew up making lasting memories with his sister, brother, and some of his cousins. In 1964, the Cooper children relocated to Minnesota with their mother.  Al attended Eisenhower High School in Hopkins, MN, graduating in 1972. In 1980, Al met Brenda Hanninen and in October 1981, Al and Brenda welcomed their daughter Sara.

Al had a great appreciation for classic cars, the louder, the faster, the better.  He spent much of the 80’s and 90’s racing stock cars at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN.  He studied Auto Mechanics at ITT Technical Institute in Eden Prairie, MN. Many family members, friends, and fellow racers turned to Al for his mechanical knowledge and his willingness to help someone in need. In 1992, Al met and fell in love with Theresa (Sorenson) Talbot.  Al became a second father to her four children, Fernellie, Mitchel, Roseann, and Danielle.  In November 1994, Al and Theresa welcomed Colton, a son of their own. In 1996, Al and Theresa moved their family to a small hobby farm in Little Falls where they raised horses, chickens, ducks, pot bellied pigs and many dogs and cats over the years.  In 1998, Al and Theresa were united in marriage.  2012 brought a move to Menahga for Al, so he could be closer to his daughter Sara and his four grandchildren.  This is where he spent the rest of his days enjoying the company of family and good friends. Al was an honest, generous man, always helping whomever he could.  He loved his kids and his grandkids more than anything and told everyone he encountered how proud he was of his family.  Al lived life by his rules, loving big, working hard and playing hard. He always said he wasn’t here for a long time. He was here for a good time. Al will be missed forever by Sadie Noland of Menahga and her children Shawn, Britney, Mikey, Toni, and Danny, daughter Sara (Eric) Makela, son Colton Cooper, all of Menahga, grandchildren, Hailey Usher, Madison, Gracie and Emmitt Makela, brother Gene (Darcel) Cooper of Olympia, WA, sister Peggy Meyer of Montgomery, MN, brother Jim (Lilia) Cooper of Tenino, WA, step siblings Sandy (Ken) Scholl, Kathy (Pat) Flanigan, Mary (Larry) Hodge, Janet White, Therese Nadol, Kim Nielsen, Patty Shelstad, Becky Shelstad, and Mike Shelstad, a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his step parents Maynard White and Rhodanne Cooper, sister Diana Smith, brother-in-law Mark Smith, step-sister Judy Jones, and step-brothers Tom White and Dick Shelstad.

James Thomas Couling passed away on December 28, 2012 at age 58.

A longtime resident of Minnetonka, MN, Jim was a 1972 graduate of Hopkins High School and U of M Duluth in 1976. He is survived by his mother, Marlene Drevlow (Robert) of Scottsdale, AZ and his father, Thomas B. Couling (Diane) of Minnetonka, MN; brother, Thomas D. Couling (Ardith) of San Antonio, TX; stepbrother, Paul Hammond (Suzanne) and their three children, Charles, Katharine and Page of Edina, MN. Age 67, of Minneapolis, MN, on May 19, 2022

David was born on August 5, 1954, in Minneapolis. He was the son of Donald and Donna (Wilkes) Daggett. Dave is survived by his brother Paul (Myriam) of Minneapolis, his brother John (Catherine) of New York, his nephew Max, and his many Daggett and Wilkes cousins.

David was the executive chef of the Marriott Minneapolis West for many years and was the founding chef of the Turf Club at Canterbury Park. He was a bold expressionist painter and was passionate about music as a rock guitarist for more than 50 years. He loved to explore new restaurants and collect their cookbooks, drink Pinot Noir, and watch indie movies.

Irrgang, Rita Mae, age 66, passed away surrounded by family May 21, 2020. Born May 18, 1954 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Dan and Delores Delmore.

Survived by her loving husband Richard, of 45 years, daughters Melissa (Matthew) Velander and Rose (Jacob) Raymond, grandchildren Miles, Avery, Nolan and Walter as well as many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

High school sweethearts Richard and Rita married January 4, 1975. Melissa Rae was born in 1978 and Rose Kathleen in 1984.

Rita had a huge heart and devoted her whole life to her family and anyone who was lucky to know her. Due to COVID-19 a celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Heartland Food Shelves.

Englar, Mary L. Age 62, of Hopkins, passed away March 3, 2017.

Preceded in death by parents Robert and Dorothy and brother Mike. Survived by siblings Ron, Kitty, Patty, Melinda, Paul, Bobbi Jean (Jerry); cousin Julia Ostendarp; nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary achieved a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing and was a professor at Mankato State. She wrote and published educational children's books. Mary was proud to have served in the Peace Corps in Tunisia. Mary was diagnosed with Stage IV Adrenal gland cancer and given 6 months to live. She proved the doctors wrong. Family and friends are so grateful to have had six more years with Mary. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to cancer research.

Steven passed away at the age of 26 on August 23, 1980.

On a moon light road, riding his motorcycle my bother lost his life in a single vehicle accident. What happened that night we will never know.  What is known is that he had passed a car a few minutes early. When they came up to the scene of the accident, the undamaged bike was found in the middle of the road.  Steven was a few feet further up the road. There were signs that he suddenly had to lock up the wheels of his cycle from the short skid marks on the road. He died instantly from a snapped neck.

The world lost a funny person who could wiggle his nose like a rabbit, while wiggling his ears, and at the same time do a Bugs Bunny voice. Smart enough to play three-level chess. Graduated first from his submarine class and be on the USS Henry Clay submarine when it launched the first underwater missile. 

Steven’s life carries on to the present. My family used the insurance money from his death to pay for the adoption costs for what would be his nephew.

Leslie A. Fleming born October 21, 1952 in Minneapolis, MN., passed away November 15, 1993 in Scottsdale, AZ.  Survived by parents Robert and Mary Lou Fleming of Scottsdale, AZ.; sisters Marsha (Bob) Koch and Gretchen (David) Sime;  1 niece and 3 nephews.   Memorial service held in Scottsdale.

Terrance (Tad) Gardner, 56, Hopkins, MN. Survived by wife, children, parents, grandchildren; 4 brothers, 2 sisters & 15 nieces & nephews.

Tad Gardner was a passionate golfer and enjoyed gardening and caring for his lawn. He was the guy who mowed his lawn like a checker board, and all the neighbors were jealous. He was also an avid reader. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family

Tad was a father of 3, step father of 3, grandfather of 2, and step grandfather. He was always his niece and nephews “Favorite Uncle”.

Tad and his second wife Joyce were married for 23 years when he passed away. He is greatly missed by everyone he knew.

Kevin Edward Glynn, Big Lake, MN died, October, 14 2020.

No obituary was published, however close friend and business partner (and our classmate) Mike Owens shared this about Kevin.

I first met Kevin in 1967. My band The Invaders played at a school dance (North Jr High) the previous night and I misplaced a foot pedal. Kevin upon noticing that it was left behind took it under his wing and in between classes the next day got it back to me. About an hour later we both were called to the principal’s office and they accused him of stealing the pedal. I explained that I misplaced it & that he was kind enough to make sure that nobody else coveted the pedal and returned it to me. That was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. From that day on we were best of friends spending countless hours listening to music, trying to figure out what life was all about and embracing everything the 1960’s had to offer.

Kevin was the drummer in a band called The Gross Reality and as his band and The Invaders both broke up Kevin and bandmate Paul Sylvestre along with me and my bandmate Steve Fjelstad teamed up to form Rye. Rye lasted through high school and into young adulthood. After Rye ran its course Steve, Kevin & I recruited Mark Throne to join us in a new venture. We needed a name for the band and another guitar player as well. Mark indicated that our pal Robb Henry had a cool name for a band that they used to played a few pickup gigs. The name was Fingerprints. We asked Robb if we could use the name and he said “Sure, do you need a guitar player? Fingerprints was born.

At about the same time I had the idea of starting a recording studio and recruited Kevin and Steve to join in the venture that became Blackberry Way. Kevin & I formed The Idle Strand after Fingerprints broke up.

Kevin was as good as they come. Beyond being a great drummer & recording engineer he was as good of a friend & business partner as one could wish for. He was a wonderful cook, loved birding, riding & building motorcycles, raising house plants and had an incredible sense of humor.

A piece of my heart has left the building . . . .

James R Guttormson was born on April 17, 1954. Parents, Rolland G. (Rollie) Guttormson and Elaine Guttormson. He died on April 13, 1992 at 37 years of age.

David Ora Haan, age 66, of Isle Minnesota unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2020.

He was born April 18, 1954 in Big Lake Texas, the son of Ioleata Anderson and late James Haan. David was one of 4 siblings.

He graduated from Eisenhower High School in Hopkins, Minnesota. He served as an Machinist at several machine shops in Minnesota including Metro Waste in St. Paul, Ship's propeller manufacturer in Seattle Washington, Business Owner of small engine repair, "Dave's Little Injun shop" in Minnesota, Vehicle Mechanic at Haan Constructors, employee at the Public Works, Transportation and Security Departments at the Grand Casino Mille Lacs.

He is survived by his Mother Ioleata Anderson, son Joshua Haan, sister and brother -in- law, Victoria and Frank Ernst, brother and sister-in-law, Roderick and Karen Haan, and brother and sister-in-law Timothy and Emma Haan, his significant other, Debra Smith, 3 nieces and 2 nephews, Carissa and Mark Bloomdahl, Sam Haan, Carrie and Josh Visser, William Ernst and 3 grandchildren.

David loved to hunt and fish and loved people. He also loved to cook, eat, can any type of food, make maple syrup, dance, watch ole’ time movies, gardening and listen to old time Rock ‘n Roll. He was known to his family as the “social butterfly”. He always made family gatherings (sometimes late) fun by telling jokes and he had a unique laugh that was contagious to everyone!! David’s legacy was one that will never be forgotten.

Bruce Allen Hallet, April 29, 1954 - July 28, 1992

At the young age of 38 years old, Bruce Hallet was found by his father murdered in his apartment, kicked to death over a bad debt. Bruce struggled most of his life with addictions and loss. Bruce was kind, gentle, handsome and athletic. He left this world too soon, but I'm certain he is in a loving place.

He joined his older sister Vickie who died in 1969 at the age of 18. Since his death he also has been joined by his younger sister Sandy, older brother Gary, his mother Donna and his father David. I write this as the sole survivor of the Hallet family.

Thank you all for being his classmate and friend as Bruce was growing up. He loved basketball with Coach Novak and hanging out with his neighborhood friends and classmates. Thank you for thinking of this wonderful soul. He is shining his love on your reunion.

Paul Hanson died very unexpectedly, but peacefully in September 1980.  His oldest brother found him lying on the living room floor in the town house they shared in South Hopkins. No reason for his death was determined.

Paul had been completing a Master of Fine Arts degree and working as a custodian at the University of Minnesota. He had previously completed his baccalaureate there.

Paul greatly enjoyed studio arts; especially drawing, intellectual challenges and pursuits, and his African Gray parrot.

He would have been deeply touched that his friends and classmates remembered him.

Ruth Ann Hemker, 53, of Portland, OR, formerly of Hopkins, passed away Oct. 13, 2007. Preceded in death father, Edwin. Survived by mother, Louise; brothers, Steve (Diane) and Daniel (Kimberly); sister, Jane; nephew, David; and niece, Katie.

Ruth lived in Portland, OR and worked for NIKE for a few years, then had her own marketing research consulting business. She taught classes in the MBA program in Marketing Research at Marylhurst University in Portland. She was a runner and completed six marathons. Ruth was chairman of the Brain Tumor Foundation, Angel Island Walk in San Francisco for two years. Also active in the Portland Animal Humane Society.

(I could go on and on but you know it can't all be said . . . She had so many interests and was good at all of them. Have a successful 40th reunion. I wish she could have made it, but know she in there in spirit. We miss her too. Mom)

Rosemary Kay Hill died March 14, 1976 of Hodgkin’s disease at the University of Minnesota hospital. She was a student at the U of M at the time.

Rosemary was the editor in chief of the student yearbook in her senior year at Eisenhower. Her younger sister Jane remembers her as a creative, artistic person.I didn’t do a lot with Rosemary, being 6 years older than she and living away from home, 4 years at a prep boarding school and then college and beyond. I do recall her wonderful sense of humor, having fun sniping sarcastically at her sister. My sense is that she was a progressive thinker, willing to challenge the status quo. I think that the tone of the class yearbook she edited reflects a rebelliousness, tempered with humor and empathy for all.
She had so much potential to do good things in the world. It’s a shame that her life was cut short, but she lived her brief time to the fullest.

I think of her every day. Thank you for your time and effort to remember the deceased. It’s much appreciated.

Scott Douglas Hutchison was born to Marjorie (nee Wentworth) and Marlin Hutchison. Scott lead and had a good life and was surrounded by great friends, family and Sandy who loved him so dearly. Preceded in death by mother, Marjorie; grandparents, Marlin and Cora Hutchison and Elias and Margaret Wentworth. Survived by the love of his life, Sandy; father, Marlin; sisters, Bonnie (Ahmad), Carrie (Mark) and Amy; stepchildren, Brent (Nicole) and Jenna; nieces, Shireen (Jason) and Jessica (John); nephew, Kevin; great-nieces and nephews, Mitchell, Michael, Haley, Zachery and Jacob; many aunts, uncles and cousins out west and down south; Sandy's mother and father, Irene and Del; sisters, Denise (Dennis), Carol Jean (Steve); brother, Ron; Godparents, Ken and JoAnn; many, many friends including the racers he raced with for 30 years through the SCCA, the owners, staff and customers at Orr Autosport and best friends, Bob (Lisa) and Lenny.

Scott was the kindest man we knew. He brought so much joy to us. Scott was a man of great kindness, honesty and integrity. If only more of us could lead our lives as did Scott, this place on Earth would be a better place. We will miss Scott to no end and will always hold him high in our thoughts and close to our hearts.

Steven O. Iverson, age 64, of Shakopee died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at his home.

Steven Oliver Iverson was born February 6, 1954 in Minneapolis the son of Oliver and Patricia (Schoenke) Iverson. Steve grew up in Hopkins and was a graduate of the Eisenhower High School. On November 7, 1972 Steve enlisted in the United States Air Force. His military occupation was as an aircraft mechanic. He was stationed in Okinawa and Thailand. He served until his Honorable Discharge in October of 1976. Steve had earned the rank of Sergeant. 

Steve worked many years driving truck as a car hauler, RAHR Malting and currently at Eaton in Eden Prairie where he had been a machinist for many years. 

Steve’s passion was being a mechanic and working in his garage. He could fix anything with an engine and was currently restoring his ’64 Chevy pickup.  He enjoyed being with friends, camping, fishing and boating on the Minnesota River. He also spent time reading, especially car magazines, National Geographic and many car manuals. 

Steve was very close to his family, especially his sister Lori. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren and many close friends.

Steven is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother Tim Iverson.

Steve is survived by his loving family: daughters and son-in-law Mollie and Nicholas Hoese of Watertown, Jennifer Iverson of Mayer; grandchildren Laura, Blake and Owen Hoese; sisters and brothers Lori (Paul) Iverson, Donnie (Sue) Campbell, Robbie (Diane) Campbell, Noreen (Jerry) Roehl, Lee (Julie) Iverson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Barbara Ann passed away on Dec 17, 2014 in Minnetonka at the age of 60.

She preceded in death by her husband Tom and survived by her 4 children and granddaughter.

A Memorial service was held Jan. 9 at Crosstown Covenant Church, 5540 30th Ave S. in Minneapolis.

Dawn Thompson, 53, of Rogers, died Monday, October 1, 2007 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Dawn Louise was born on May 1, 1954 in Plymouth to Richard and Ilamae (nee Wages) Jacobson. On September 13, 1975, Dawn married Ted Thompson at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley. They were blessed with two daughters. A Class of '72 graduate of Hopkins Lindbergh High School, Dawn earned her Bachelor of Elementary Education in 1991 from St. Cloud State after rearing her children to school age. Her first teaching job was at St. Michael Elementary School where she worked for many years. For three years Dawn worked for the Hamel Post Office. In 1999 she returned to teaching, this time for St. Francis Xavier Elementary School. A former Girl Scout troop leader, Dawn enjoyed reading, and animals, especially birds.

Dawn L. Thompson is survived by her husband, Ted, Rogers, MN; daughters: Kirsten Thompson, Albertville, and Erin Thompson, St. Michael; mother, Ilamae Jacobson, Plymouth; brothers: Richard Jacobson, Ogilvie, Terrance Terry Jacobson, South Haven, and Jay (Barb) Jacobson, Oak Grove; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Jacobson; and sister-in-law, Colleen (Terrance) Jacobson.

Meredith J. Kakach, 54, of Hopkins, died July 23, 2008. Preceded in death by parents, Richard and Phyllis Kakach. Survived by brother, Rick (Laura) Kakach; niece and nephew, Rachel and R.J.; many relatives and friends, including her loyal feathered friends. Worked for Hennepin County Home School and Wackenhut Security. Dedicated retired firefighter for the Hopkins Fire Dept.

Excerpts from Eulogy given by first cousin Lida Kakach Strot.

Growing up, Meredith was an easygoing and happy person. One of the big events in Meredith's life was learning to drive and getting her first truck. Trucks and fire trucks were always a passion for her and she was always so proud of her vehicle. As a child, Meredith had a collection of minature fire trucks and emergency trucks of every variety.

Meredith graduated from Eisenhower High School, Hopkins, MN in 1972. A life long learner, both the challenges and the successes. She also attended Metro State. Meredith loved reading and always had a good book at hand, history, law enforcement, fiction or religous. Meredith also kept her Bible near and read it often. Reading stories about people's lives, experiances and faith energized her.

Meredith was an army reservist and the first woman firefighter in the Hopkins Fire Department. This was a monumental experiance for Meredith and the City of Hopkins. She was an active member of the Hopkins VFW Auxiliary. She worked with street youth at the Country Home School, drove bus for MTC, was a security guard for many years. She loved volunteer work and even after the amputation of her leg, necessary because of her diabetes, she volunteered for the Breast Cancer Three Day.

Meredith loved her family and friends and her parakeets. She had a special affinity to God's creatures both human and animal and we
think God had a special affinity for Meredith.

Gail Karash-Neu, 56 year old resident of Elmdale, MN, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at Quiet Oaks Hospice in St. Augusta, MN. Pastor Craig Johnson officiated the service. Burial at MN State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.

Gail Ann Karash was born on December 6, 1953 in Hopkins, MN to the late Robert and Regenia (Moga) Karash. She graduated from Hopkins High School and continued her education, becoming a Diet Technician. Gail was united in marriage to Tom Neu on August 24, 1996 in Little Falls, MN. They settled down in Elmdale, MN. Gail worked at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud for the last 31 years as a Diet Technician. She developed a great rapport with her patients, helping them in their rehabilitation. Gail planned on retiring in September of this year.

Gail was a wonderful cook and the proud owner of over 2000 cookbooks. Besides keeping Tom well fed, she catered for her friends, community events, and many special occasions at her church. Gail enjoyed traveling, taking many trips around the world in her younger years, and around the U.S. with Tom. She was a loving and caring person, always ready to help out others, especially with her cooking; she had an “Open Heart and an Open Oven.” Gail was a good servant and long time member of Community Covenant Church, and Covenant Women organization.

Gail is survived by her husband, Tom; step-daughter, Lorelle Neu of Anoka, MN; brother, Tim (Cookie) Karash of Isanti, MN; other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and step-mother, Arlene Karash.

Patrick G. Kehr, 62, of Hopkins/Mtka, passed away May 29, 2016. Preceded in death by father Gilbert Kehr. Survived by mother, Marcie Kehr, wife Susan Dahl, daughter Sarah Oerter, and an enormous, loving family. William, age 65, lived in Minnetrista.

Bill leaves behind his son Chris (fiancé Pens), brothers Mike, Jim (JoAnn), Don (Amy), sister Kit, numerous nieces and nephews and former wife and friend Cindy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Bunny Kelly, sister-in-law Linda and niece Colleen.

Alan lost his battle with leukemia on April 2, 1980.
He was passionate about his family, friends and music. Alan worked with the “Whitesidewalls Rock 'n' Roll Revue" as their light and sound guy. He loved it. The lead singer “Hound Dog” of the Whitesidewall’s sang a solo of the hymn “How Great Thou Art” at his funeral. To this day, many of us who were there are reminded of Alan every time we hear that song. Hound Dog said, "even though Alan was a "behind the scenes" guy for us, he was and always will be a Whitesidewalls!"

He was survived by his father, Patrick Kennedy, sisters Kathy and Michelle, brother Mark, and Grandma and Grandpa Kennedy.

Mike is a long-time member of Holy Family and a member of the Knights of Columbus. 

Lynn Krismer graduated from the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Design with a major in photography. She spent her college years working at Hoigaard’s and after graduation worked downtown Minneapolis developing film, advising clients on cameras, lenses, and the art of photography. Running, family fishing trips to Lake of Woods, Canada, and cooking for friends and family filled her life, but art was Lynn’s passion. Her work includes a couple photo essays, nature pictures and a collection of poetry.

Lynn passed away on February 14,1984, in a drowning accident. Her story is alive in her artwork. 

Survived by her parents, John and Betty Krismer; brother, Michael; sister's Deborah Barnett and Patricia Daugherty. Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Edina.

Born on July 26, 1954, Eric is the son of Choh Hsien and Lai Tong Li.  Fondly remembered as a happy young boy, who enjoyed active play and sports, Eric grew into a bright, thoughtful, and very creative young man.   As a teenager, Eric became deeply involved in the realms of theatre and music.  He played the piano brilliantly, and wrote many original compositions.  He was the class valedictorian at Hopkins High.

After graduation, Eric moved to New York City, where he attended Columbia University.  There he met his wife Jennifer Westburg, a visual artist.  They married in New York in 1985.  During that time, Eric continued to write and play music, involved with some important cultural movements of the time.

Sadly, Eric died in June of 1989.   He is fondly remembered and deeply missed by his mother Lai Tong Li and his sister Cora Li-Leger.

For those of you who knew Vince, it was obvious he was a very energetic, spirited person. He exuded this energy and charisma in all roles of his life. We feel blessed that we got to play the role of his daughters. Our father showed us a way of living that was compassionate to all with a childlike curiosity for life. All this was bound by his faith, family, friends, and love for our mother.

We lovingly remember him as a wonderful person who taught us to live with purpose and spirit as he did.

Holly D. Mahnke, 55, of Bloomington, passed away 6/19/10, ending her courageous battle with colon cancer. Born 12/20/54 in Minot, ND and graduated from Eisenhower HS in Hopkins, MN.

Bruce Mason, age 66, of Burnsville. Born April 22, 1954. Pat passed away February 5, 2018, due to cancer. 

Pat worked for Coca Cola Company for many years and held various positions, including, VP and General Manager of New York/New England, VP and General Manager of Southern California, and CFO of Coca Cola out of Atlanta Georgia. After Pat left Coke he held many different leadership positions on various boards and was instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Catholic Schools.

Pat was married and leaves behind a wife, Janice, and three children.

Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Atlanta officiated Pat’s funeral. 

Pat will always be remembered as, very funny, very happy and full of life. R.I.P. old friend.

Freeman (Mattheisen), Mary Beth age 63 of Robbinsdale, passed away unexpectedly on 8/31/17. Preceded in death by father James Mattheisen and first husband Daniel Chase. Survived by loving husband of 25 years Mark; mother Gladys; sister Julie (Jerry) Dahl; brother Thomas (Karen) Mattheisen; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mary Beth loved everyone and they loved her right back. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Animal Ark, Hastings, MN.

Robert McCampbell died September 17, 1977 in a car accident at the age of 23. Robert was born on May 7, 1954 to Richard and Jean McCampbell. He was the fourth of seven children for Richard and Jean. The family initially lived near Lake Nokomis in South Minneapolis and in 1964 moved out to Golden Valley, MN.  After graduation from Hopkins Lindbergh High School, Robert became strongly interested in a Minneapolis community theater, and while working fulltime, put in hundreds of hours preparing for his singing and dancing role in a 1973 local production of The Music Man. That same year he developed a great love for the film and sound-track of Jesus Christ Superstar. Robert had a long-term dream of joining a stage production of it. In 1975 Robert moved out to Colorado where he worked as a land surveyor for a mineral exploration company. Then in 1977 he returned to live in Pine City, Minnesota where he continued surveying work. His intention was to join the Civil Engineering program at the University of Minnesota.

Robert lived a big life.  In addition to his new-found love of theater, he loved the great outdoors, skating, skiing, canoeing, camping, swimming, cliff-diving, hunting, fishing and playing the drums. He loved his big dog Tuco (half Saint Bernard, half German Shepherd) and most of all Robert enjoyed being with friends and family. Everybody loved Robert. Well over 100 of Robert’s friends came to his wake and funeral to say goodbye to their dear friend.

The influence of Jesus Christ Superstar became clearer in the last few years of his life when Robert actively deepened his spiritual life, read the Good News Bible and drew steadily closer to God. He quietly encouraged his family to do the same. He was and is of great inspiration to each of us.

Robert is still greatly missed by his father, Richard Sr.; mother Jean; sisters Mary (Neveaux) of Loretto, MN; Martha of Golden Valley, MN; Julie (Hidani) of Plymouth, MN; Sheila (Meagher) of Tiburon, CA and brothers David of Eau Claire, WI and Richard Jr. of Boston, MA.

Patricia McGannon, of Plymouth, formerly of Hopkins. Born Dec. 27, 1953, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sept. 5, 2012. Patty battled brittle bone disease and other medical complications.

Preceded in death by parents, Winnie & Phil, and brother, Mike. Survived by sisters, Mary (Mark) English and Barbara McGannon; nieces, Alexandra and Jacqueline and nephew, Philip.

Patricia McKenzie Walters, 55, of Forest Lake died on January 30, 2009 at Windy Acres Assisted Living of ALS.

Patty graduated from Hopkins Eisenhower and worked at Control Data and Medtronics. Survived by husband, Arnie, employee of Northwest Airlines; daughter, Mary, student at St. Catherine's College; parents, Robert and Armella McKenzie of Hopkins/Forest Lake; extended families, Mary DeMuth, Karen Buntrock, Chris Addison, the McKenzies, the Mudricks and the Walters families; lifetime friend, Deb Lubotina and neighbors of Columbus/Forest Lake.

James McLellan passed away on April 13, 2017. James was passionate about auto racing, particularly late-model cars, competing on the national circuit and at Elko Speedway.

Carter, Margaret McNeill "Peggy" passed away in her sleep May 20, 2023, at 69 years old.

Her loving heart took its final beat. Peggy is survived by daughter Rachael (Jon); son Shawn; granddaughter Kylie; and the light-of-her-life grandson Devon; siblings Kathy, Mike, Pat and Tim; nieces, nephews and friends; also her beloved cat Charlie. Peggy was a loving, free spirit, who made friends whereever she went. Proud '72 grad of Hopkins HS, 1972 Raspberry Queen.

On the evening of Wednesday May 2, Gary Minion passed from this life. He is survived by his longtime partner, Cynthia, and four sons Adam, Noah, David, and Bobby (Michael).

Gary was a generous man who touched many lives. Always had a smile on his face, and an infectious laugh that would brighten any room. He lived his life to the fullest, and loved to bring everyone around him along for his wild ride.

Gary had a prodigious work ethic; not a day would go by without him working on the house, the yards & gardens, or on one of his many hobbies. He worked hard to ensure his family was cared for and could have fun along they way.

Unfortunately, the past several years saw Gary struck with a string a bad luck and, with his passing, left very little behind to help care for his loving partner, Cynthia.

Tom Mohr passed away suddenly on March 25, 1999 at the age of 45 years. He was born in Minneapolis and lived most of his life in the Minnetonka area.  After graduation from Hopkins Lindbergh High School, he attended the University of Minnesota.  He joined the Gopher hockey team, which, at that time, was coached by Herb Brooks. Tom was the goaltender in 1976 when the Gophers won the NCAA Championship. His enthusiasm for the sport continued after college. He played for a short time on a NHL minor league team. However, much to the delight of his mother, his hockey career was short-lived. After an injury to his leg, he headed back to Minnesota where he applied and was accepted into the U of M School of Dentistry.

Tom married his high school sweetheart Kim Thometz shortly after completing school. He and Kim have two wonderful children, Clayton and Blakely, who reside in the Twin Cities area. Tom practiced dentistry in Osakis, MN and then moved to Glen Lake, where he practiced until his death in 1999. Tom was deeply devoted to his family and friends. We will forever remember his booming voice, quick smile, love of music and most of all his passion for life.

There was never a dull moment when Tom was in the room. He enjoyed life to its fullest.

Beverly J. Mueller, Beloved Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Dear Friend, 54, of Sacramento, CA, formerly of Hopkins, passed away July 18, 2008. Preceded in death by father, Norman. Survived by mother, Darleen; sisters, Barb (Al) Brenn, and Betty; brothers, Wayne (Joyce) and Mark; 3 nieces, 2 nephews and many friends; her beloved Yorkie, Roscoe.

Bev was employed by several agencies of the Federal Government.  She worked for the Social Security Administration, and retired after 30 years of service.  Most of her career was spent in California, where she moved shortly after graduation from Eisenhower.

Bev was an avid sewer and crafter and made countless gifts for family and friends – embroidered table runners, handmade quilts and quilted wall hangings, knit and crocheted baby blankets, as well as clothing.  The colors and fabrics of her quilts were so rich, and she would add metallic threads for embellishment.  They are outstanding examples of her artistic ability.  Bev also was a talented baker.  At Christmas time, she would make a vast assortment of cookies, bars, and miniature cheesecakes.  At least once a week, she would bring some sort of homemade treats into her office.  Everyone always looked forward to her latest creation.

Bev did not marry or have any children, but daily we are reminded of her by the beautiful quilts and quilted projects that she loved making for her many friends and family.

Bev was very kindhearted, giving, and generous, and always had a smile on her face. She came home to Minnesota in 2007 to be with all of us as she went through treatment for cancer, but cancer won that painful battle.

She left us with her legacy of sewing, cooking and many other artistic talents.  Her family and friends will never forget her … her many talents, her hearty laugh and her generous attitude.

We miss you, Bev, but we will never forget you.

Daniel J. G. Mueller, 49, of Hopkins. Preceded in death by his father, Donald. Survivors include his mother, Mary Alice Mueller of San Diego, CA; brothers & sister-in-law, Robert of Chaska, Joseph & Mary of Orono, James of Excelsior; sisters & brothers-in-law, Cece & Wayne Stover of Omaha, NE, Susan & Greg Brinkhaus of Farmington, Betsy & Jim Knapp of Chaska, Julie & Tony Machtemes of Orland Park, IL, Pam & Rich Traeger of W. Des Moines, IA; 11 nieces & nephews; and 4 grand nieces.

You may remember Dan as a musician. He sometimes sounded and looked like Cat Stevens, and had a great love of writing and singing folk music. He had a very passionate voice in song, though he spoke quietly.

After high school, he entered the seminary at St. Thomas, but was called to other pursuits than the priesthood. A few years here and there, including time at the U of M in Morris, a stint as a dj in North Dakota, and life in California, then he re-settled in Hopkins.

Dan remained a very private man, with a deep faith and a chuckle in his heart at the strange foibles of being human.
One of those strange foibles is that he died too young, at 49, in January of 2003. Dan lived with Myotonic Dystrophy (a genetic disease that causes a sort of pre-mature declining of various muscular systems), and his death came as an expression of the disease. While he couldn't always chuckle at knowing that he would likely die young, he certainly did not consider the disease to be some unusually difficult burden. It was simply life, a part of his life, not the defining characteristic.
I think the defining characteristic of Dan's life was his intensity of love for friends and family, and a deep, mysterious and mostly unspoken faith.

David A. Nelson, 60, of Rockford, MN, died March 27, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.

His loving daughters Brittany & Abbie, and ex-wife Terry, all of Rockford, were at his side.

David has donated his body to the U of M for medical research.

John Gregory Norton, 44, born August 13, 1953 to parents John R. and Katherine J, died from a heart attack July 10, 1998 in Texas.

John was described by his father as a "free spirit". A tall, good-looking guy who enjoyed life and lived it on his terms. Smart and clever, John followed his father in the automotive business as Sales Mahnager for Southdale Ford.. After a successfull career in MN, John and his younger brother, Todd, traveled to Texas to start a home building business. John continued to be involved in the automotive industry in Texas, along with home improvement work.

John enjoyed traveling to Europe and Las Vegas and could often be found fishing in Acapulco, Mexico while staying at the family condominium. John never married, but had a special girlfriend, Carol.

He is survived by his parents, who still live in the family home in Forest Hills, Minnetonka; sister, Marsha, (MN); brother, Todd (TX). John is buried in Arlington, TX.

Sherry A Novak, 52, of Chanhassen. Loving daughter of M. Kenneth & Joan Novak. Survived by brother, Ken (Shauna) Novak; sister, Shauna (Bruce) Hoffarber; nieces and nephews, Andy, Kenny and Lynsey Novak, Adam, Margo and Blake Hoffarber; uncles & aunts, Don & Jackie Larson, Gary & Lori Larson, John & Audrey Novak; and cousins.

After graduating from Eisenhower High School Sherry studied at Gustavus and Univeristy of Oklahoma beofre earning a Business-Accounting degree from the University of Minnesota. She used her accounting training while working for a leading transportation company.

In her freetime, Sherry enjoyed being outdoors at her home in Chanhassen. She was a terrific gardener and loved growing beautiful flowers.

Another passion for Sherry was cooking. She was long known to prefer reading cookbooks rather than popular novels. Sherry would regulary gather and entertain friends with a variety of recipes.

When not entertaining at home, Sherry enjoyed traveling. Favorite spot: Europe.

Her parents still reside in their family home in Minnetonka.

Loren Douglas Page, 52, of Chaska, formerly of Minnetonka. Preceded in death by mother, Edith. Survived by father, Leonard; brothers, Randall and Brad; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Paulson, Gregg, born 6/25/54 to Eleanor and Donald Paulson, passed away 9/30/18.

A wonderful child of God, he loved hunting, fishing & sports of all kinds. Affectionately known as "Spot" by his friends as a result of a hockey puck scar around his eye. A graduate of Hopkins High School, Hamline University and the University of Texas El Paso.

Survived by brother, Donald (Diane) Paulson, sisters Launa Tucker & Lea Paulson and loved by nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews as well as many cousins and friends. He was loved and will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 23 at 1pm at St. David Episcopal Church, 13000 St David Rd., Minnetonka. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, Ducks Unlimited or any charity of your choice to honor Gregg.

Robin Jo Pavelka, Mound, MN, passed away suddenly November 6, 1993.

Robin enjoyed all types of handwork, sewing and neddlepoint. Robin started sewing at a young age and was soon making her own clothes when she was only nine years old, which she continued to do for many years. That attention to detail also served her well applying her skills in data entry and office work. Robin also enjoyed gardening.

Robin married Brian in 1978, also originally from Hopkins. She was the proud mother of two wonderful boys, John, 24, and Dan, 22.

Robin is survived by her husband, Brian; sons, John, Dan; brothers Mark, Tom, Andy; and both parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Pavelka continue to live in their family home in Hopkins. They fondly remember Robin every day with love and saddened hearts.

Dale M. Pearson, of Lakeville, passed away on August, 16, 2021.

Dale Pearson was born a small-town boy at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN and raised in Hopkins, MN. Following his graduation from Eisenhower Hopkins High School, Dale entered the work force and was a long-time employee of Coca-Cola. He later married Jean and settled down in Lakeville, MN. That is where Dale and Jean raised their two daughters, Alex and Morgan.

While Dale was a man of few words, he made an impact when he spoke. He showed his love for others and the community through his actions. He regularly donated blood with the Red Cross and never hesitated to help his friends. A generous and mechanically inclined man, Dale shared his time and talents helping friends and family. He was The Fix It Guy’s Fix It Guy.

In his free time, Dale enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cooking. He grew up fishing and hunting with his dad Lloyd and loved taking his wife and daughters out on the lake. Dale always made a big show out of breakfast with his signature Swedish pancakes and eggs benedict. He made sure to fill sweet tooths as well with pumpkin pie, pumpkin bars, and Colorado peach cobbler.

Dale was definitely a lover of traditional dishes and celebrating his Swedish roots. Growing up his mom, Dorothy, made lutefisk for the holidays. While Jean and Alex greatly preferred Swedish meatballs, Dale kept the lutefisk tradition going by making lutefisk and white gravy for Morgan every New Year’s Day.

Throughout his life, Dale and his wife loved to travel. They enjoyed several cruises resulting in Dale becoming well acquainted with a camera. From fishing with his dad, to stills of lush green scenery, to underwater life while scuba diving and snorkeling. Dale loved to take pictures of adventures with his family. He had more fun taking the pictures than being in them.

His wife Jean loves to read books that rest on shelves her husband built all around their home. She will miss their “Thursday Date Night Meals” at home. A tradition that was sparked when they started their family, as a way to have a special meal in the comfort of their dining room with the girls down the hall.

Dale’s daughters will always remember him for his quick-witted “Dale Jokes,” hammering away at their science fair projects, and teaching them the lyrics to classic songs, especially The Queen of the Silver Dollar, Last Kiss, and the Beverly Hillbillies theme song.

Dale had a wonderful fondness for feeding the local finches and hummingbirds. He especially enjoyed watching hummingbirds fly by his deck as he relaxed in his favorite chair.

Roxanne Karen Way, 52, of Burnsville, passed away peacefully on Dec. 5, 2005 surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by grandparents. Survived by son, Brad Way, daughter, Beth Way & their father, Gary Way; parents, Dorothy & James Foster; brothers, Richard (Tammy) Peterson, Roger (Amy) Peterson; niece & nephews, Tracey, Scott and Brian Peterson; other family members and friends. Interment Lakewood Cemetery.

Roxy was a strong, loving woman who always placed others before herself, but most importantly, she was a devoted mother who is now an angel in heaven watching over us all.

Craig R. Pinkney, 48. Preceded in death by his loving mother, Lillian. Survived by brother, Kevin; sister, Pam; 3 aunts, 1 uncle and 3 nieces. Craig was a well-known local character who brought out a smile and laugh from all who crossed his path. He will be deeply missed by all.

Russell served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army (PFC) and is buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Sue's life was cut short when she passed away very young at the age of 25 in August of 1979.

Sue was developing schizophrenia in her last two years of high school and this very debilitating disease took it toll on her brain for the next difficult seven years.  The struggle was painful for her and her family, but in the end we took comfort knowing she had gone on to a better place and would suffer no more.

James "Jim" M. Rodness, age 66, Sartell, MN died Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.

Jim was born April 20, 1954 in St. Louis, MO to Dale M. and Kathryn M. (Romanchuk) Rodness. He married Bonnie Hale on April 25, 1992 in Minnetonka, MN. Jim was employed as an accountant in the hospitality industry. He was a member of Celebration Lutheran Church, Sartell, MN. Jim enjoyed fishing, history and genealogy. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind heart, loyalty, endless trivia knowledge, and ability to make small talk with anyone.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Rodness of Sartell, MN; daughters, Inga (Derek) Gerads of Sartell, MN; and Hannah (Zackary) Judovsky of Sauk Rapids, MN; sisters, Sandra and Susan Rodness of St. Louis Park, MN; and aunt, Marilyn (Kenneth) Quarforth of Rapid City, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and uncle Irving Rodness.

Memorials are preferred to Stearns County Historical Museum.

She worked hard and excelled in all she did and gave everyone, from family to the unhoused, respect, understanding, and love, and she had a deep laugh. Bernie enjoyed gardening, reading, learning new things, being with family and friends, and supporting those in need.

Mark William Schmidt, 58, Princeton, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at Fairview Northland Medical Center, Princeton.

Mark was born on May 14, 1953 in Minneapolis, son of Albert “Bud” and Kathleen (Joern) Schmidt. He grew up and received his education in the Hopkins and Minnetonka areas, graduating from Hopkins Lindbergh High School in 1972.

He was united in marriage with Kimberly Ann Schneider on June 17, 1976 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Minnetonka. They made their home in Cedar for a few years, before moving to rural Princeton in May of 1979, where they farmed. They raised cattle and small grains. Mark was also over-the-road truck driver. For the past eight years, Mark and Kim sold their potatoes and other vegetables at the Princeton Farmer’s Market, where Mark was known as the Potato Man.

He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, when he wasn’t farming or driving truck.

He is survived by his wife Kim of Princeton; sister Patty McAndrews of Garrison; father-in-law John Schneider of Edina; and sisters-in-law Debbie (Art) Steinberg of Isanti and Janice (Chris) Becker of Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his parents: Bud in 2006 and Kathleen in 1995; and a brother-in-law: Terry in 2008.

James Schwich, age 64, formerly of Minneapolis passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2019 at his home in Osakis, MN.

James Timothy Schwich was born on June 6, 1954 in Indianapolis, IN to Norman and Mary (Davis) Schwich.  He moved with his family to Hopkins, MN and graduated from Hopkins High School.

Jim received his Associate Degree in sales and began a long career as a sales representative.  He lived and worked in Chicago, IL, and Atlanta, GA before returning to Minneapolis and being hired by the Hinckle Corp.  He was a sales representative for this company which sold paint chemicals to major paint companies across the country.  He travelled extensively but because of his commitment and hard work, was able to retire at an early age.  Jim bought a home on the north end of Lake Osakis and enjoyed many hours fishing on Osakis and area lakes.  Fishing was his main hobby but he also liked to go hunting and was a huge MN professional sports fan.  In his youth he like to play softball and continued an interest in sports all of his life.

He is survived by an uncle, Victor Schwich of Holly Hill, FL, several cousins and many friends.  Preceding him in death are his parents, a brother, Michael Schwich and an aunt and two uncles.

 A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Leslie Community Church, Osakis, MN with Chaplain David Greaver officiating.

Virginia C. (Seeley) Brennan, 54, of Chandler, AZ previously of Brooklyn Park, passed away on January 17, 2009. Survived by daughter, Sandy and Sandy's son, Aaron; son, Tony Jr.; mother, Corrine; & siblings.

Sandra Marie Metcalf, beautiful and loving mother, sister, friend and wife, passed away suddenly on July 2, 2010 in Minneapolis.  Sandra was born December 2, 1953 in Minneapolis and spent most of her youth in the Minnetonka and Hopkins areas of Minnesota.  She graduated from St. Mary's as a respiratory therapist and moved to Salt Lake City.  She met the love of her life and future husband, Steven in 1975 via a conspiratorial matchmaker, Deon Simmons, to whom Steven will be forever grateful.

Sandy and Steve were married on June 18, 1977 in Minneapolis, and spent their adult lives together in Salt Lake City.  They raised two sons, Jamison and Scott, of whom she was immensely proud.  She adored her boys, her daughter-in-law Taysia, and Scott's sweetheart Becca.  Sandy achieved Grandma status in January 2010 with the birth of her granddaughter Ellie Ann.

Sandy completed her BS in Health Care Administration from the Weber State University and was an accomplished leader and contributor in her profession at Intermountain Healthcare from 1975 to 2005. Her family and friends were her life.   Always thinking of someone else before herself, she loved working with people and inspired us, particularly her husband and sons, to be better individuals.

She is preceded in death by her older brother Bradley and her parents Bill and Dolores.  Sandy is survived by her siblings, Barb, Kathy, Jimmy and Judy; her sons, Jamison and Scott; her daughter-in-law Taysia; her granddaughter Ellie Ann; and her husband Steven.

Rick Sherwood Sorensen, 41, born May 6, 1954, spent his entire childhood in Hopkins and attended Alice Smith Elementary School, North Junior High and Hopkins Eisenhower High School, graduating in 1972.  He then went on to the University of Montana earning an undergraduate degree in Finance.  You could say he also earned a minor, or at least helped earn his way through college, playing foosball.  He loved the west and so after college, he moved to Portland, Oregon and began a career in commercial finance with CIT Corporation.  His career with CIT took him from Portland, to Phoenix, to Dallas and ultimately back to Phoenix, where he passed away in 1995 at the very young age of 41.

If you remember Rick, those memories may include his passion for hockey, his El Camino, his love of our family trips each summer to northern Wisconsin for a week at the lake, his work ethic and determination, his love of boating and water skiing, the joy he got out of playing foosball (he was really quite good and won many tournaments out west in Montana and Portland, as well as here in Minneapolis) and finally you may recall that he and trouble may have been slightly more than just passing acquaintances.

We hope you have a few fond memories of Rick, as we, his siblings, all do.  We know some of you considered him a good friend and we are grateful for your kindness toward him and your friendship as he was growing up.  He left us well before his time with many things undone.  In our memory, he was a fundamentally good and honorable man, who worked hard, played hard, lived by a strong code of honor and searched for the happiness and fulfillment that most of us are blessed enough to have found.

Brett Stangeland, 64, passed away September 23, 2018.

While pursuing a successful career in the hotel/hospitality industry that took him to Indiana, California and Wisconsin, Brett's world was rocked in 1996 when Brittany, his 15-year old daughter, was killed in a car accident. Sadly, the loss of Brittany changed the trajectory of his life.

Survived by Gail (Florida), daughter Brooke (New York), grandson, Hudson.

Mike Taylor, Destin, FL, passed away from a series of health problems.

Mike loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, doing some guiding in the Gulf and fly fishing in Glacier Park.

Cynthia Joan Tharinger passed away peacefully, at the home she loved, on November 20 and is now at peace.

She was born in Minneapolis on June 11, 1954, one of seven children of Robert and Jean Tharinger. Raised in Minnesota, she came to Montana as a freshman at the University of Montana. Through the years she lived in Whitefish, Missoula and Bozeman. She left for 10 years to pursue her graduate degree at Syracuse University, and finally returned to her beloved Montana, settling in Stevensville.

Cindy was the ”baby” of her large family, sharing love, travels, laughter and debates with her older siblings Mary, Judy, Bob, Steve, Sue and Patty, as well as their partners Barn, Sylvie, Thora, Yvonne and Gary. She was a devoted and beloved “Aunt Cindt” to her nieces and nephews Lara, Nate, Morgan, Lilly, Hugo, Cassie, Perle, Emma, Hannah and Sam who all thought she was one of the most stubborn, independent, fun and overall kick-ass woman you could ever meet. She will be sorely missed by lifelong friends, Cinda Holt and Chris Merriman, as well as her extended family and friends. Last on this list but first in her heart, her best loved dogs, Gracie and Reuben. Cindy’s love of a good conversation and a new friend led her to build many enduring friendships and loved ones.

Cindy was an amazing watercolor artist and graphic designer. She served on the design committee of the Stevensville Main Street Association. Cindy loved theater, dance, music, film and was a supporter of arts through the years in her capacity as consultant. Throughout her life she created homes and gardens that were in themselves works of art.

Jeffrey Vernon Thon passed away on May 19, 2015, at the University of Minnesota, while awaiting a lung transplant. He had been diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis late last year and had just been placed on the transplant list. Jeff was born on Aug. 27, 1954, to parents William and Evie Thon, in Minneapolis, Minn. Along with his parents and two sisters, Jeffrey grew up on the same street as his grandmother, three uncles, their wives and 13 cousins. Countless fond memories were made there in the Thon neighborhood, Grandma's famous French pancakes and brownies, to name a few. Jeff graduated from Hopkins Lindbergh High School in Hopkins, Minn., in 1972. He then attended the University of Minnesota for a semester and at the end of the year enlisted, along with his cousin Steve, in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo., where he spent much of his free time rock climbing with his cousin who was also stationed there and began his life-long love of travel when he was deployed to Korea and spent the remainder of his service in Korea. Upon his return to Minneapolis, he followed in his father's footsteps and took a job at the U.S. Postal Service, but his wandering spirit was not meant for postal work. He packed his car and headed to Eugene, Ore., to make use of his Veteran's benefits where he attended the University of Oregon. An avid reader of Jack London books, Jeff was drawn to seek the adventure of Alaska. His cousin Steve was already in Anchorage and when Jeff called, he told him, "it's the land of opportunity, go North young man," and that he did. In 1979, with only $52 in his pocket, he embarked on yet another adventure. He slept in his car, found work and was successful in his career early on, working in bank management, property management and, at one time, even owning an ice cream shop. In 1981, Jeff became a Commercial Real Estate broker and began his 33 year career, winning numerous awards along the way. Jeff will be remembered as an outstanding professional and was honored by the number of clients he was able to assist over the many years, but he ultimately worked to enjoy his favorite past-times: hockey, hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. He loved to play hockey and was a member of the Alaska 49er's until he could no longer play due to his lung disease. He traveled all over the world to hunt and vacation and said he was very fortunate to have seen the sun rise and set on six different continents. Hawaii with his daughter and grandkids was a favorite vacation spot, he and his son traveled to Africa to hunt, he shot Doves in Argentina, he never missed an opening day of Duck Season and he spent many weeks of the year duck, geese, pheasant and deer hunting with his long-time hunting buddies David Borer, Dave Kester, Jeff Koonce, Mark Haberman, Mark Thon and Dan Miller and his son Will, when he was big enough to hold a gun. Jeff was a devoted father of two, in 1982, his daughter, Tristan Louise Thon, was born with then spouse, Barbara Smith (Prater) and in 1994, he had his son, William Jeffrey Thon, with then spouse, Alesia Thon (Pugmire). In 2009, he met the love of his life, his Minda Lee. They married on a beautiful beach in Maui, Hawaii, on Dec. 12, 2014, with all of their children, grandchildren and several friends attending. Jeff was full of kindness and humor and had a fun and contagious spirit. His real love was found in the quiet moments of a duck blind, in the crisp morning air of a deer hunt, the love of his bird dogs and Sunday dinners with his family, especially his grandchildren. Those who knew Jeff know of his endless generosity. He served on many boards and committees, including Rotary, STAR, Kiwanis Club, Salvation Army and the Food Bank of Alaska. Jeffrey is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Minda Lee Thon; his children, Tristan Louise and husband, Luke Hough and grandchildren, Noah, Charlotte and Hudson Hough; his son, William Jeffrey Thon; stepdaughters, Gabrielle Sines and Lauren and husband, Nicholas Perry; granddaughters, Ashlynn and Presley Perry of Anchorage, Alaska; his two sisters, Anita and her husband, Mark Forde of Minneapolis, Minn., and Sandee and her husband, Tom Garigen of Conway, S.C.; cousins, Steve and Debbie Thon; and nephews, Matthew and Zach Thon of Anchorage, Alaska; and all of his other cousins and spouses in Minnesota, who are like brothers and sisters, and their children; and countless friends and hunting buddies. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations instead be made to Rotary Fund International or The Children's Lunchbox, organizations close to Jeff's heart. We also ask that if you are not already, you consider becoming an organ donor so future families can be given the gift of life.

Jana L. Pile, age 64, of Albertville, MN, died 11/6/18 from COPD.

Preceded in death by her sister, Jill Sanko and father, Jack Tibbs, survived by mother Joyce (Stewart Lee) Tibbs; sister Alison (Steve) Caputo; children Heather (Jeremy) Pendleton, Sean Pile and Nick (Courtney) Pile and grandson Evan Pile.

Jana loved her three children with all her heart. She was divorced.  She had great faith and was very spiritual. Showed a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  Jana loved to listen to the band “The Combo" at Bunkers on Sunday nights, any kind of dog and the North Shore.  She was a very gentle soul and struggled with stage 4 COPD for about four years until her passing.  She will be missed by many. 

Tolasek, Darlene K., age 68 of Hopkins, passed away July 24, 2022

Proceeded in death by parents Lucille and Joseph Tolasek, and fiance Robert Erichsen, and niece.

Survived by sisters JoAnne Bristol (HHS-1959), and Shirley (Marlo) Rencille (HHS-1961), cousins and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held.

David (Vilipski) Holland, 58, formerly of Hopkins, passed away Feb. 14, 2012.

Preceded in death by father, John Vilipski; and 2 brothers, Steve and John. Survived by mother, Jean Vilipski; brothers, Dr. Mike (Mary Liz) Holland, Storey Holland (Steve), Bill (Lisa) Vilipsk; sisters, Mary (James) Stang, Cathy (D.L. Smith) Vilipski; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David was an avid outdoorsman and loved his time at Ten Mile Lake. He attended Benilde, Hopkins Eisenhower, and St. Mary's College in Winona.

Theodora M. "Teddi" Wall, age 62, of Hopkins passed away unexpectedly in Mpls. on October 20, 2016.

Preceded in death by mother Donna Wall (d. 2015) and brother Donald Wall (d. 1966). Survived by father Theodore D. Wall; sisters Nancy Wall Glowaski and Judith Wall; also several nephews and nieces. Arrangements planned in Orr, MN.

Steven John Warren died in his New York City apartment, August 2001.

With a colorful personality and vivid imagination, which often led to a beyond belief story to match, Steven led a complicated, and mostly restless life. His teen years were transformational. He told his parents he was gay. His mental illness developed. As an adult he enjoyed the antique business, working mostly in San Francisco and New York. His critical eye helped him in the antique business, but also led to intense and often rocky relationships with family and friends. Unfortunately, much of his time was spent alone. Family will remember his loud outfits, extravagant stories, acts of generosity and courage to struggle through life fighting demons deep inside.  

Jay died from lung cancer in 2014. He had two brothers.

Jay moved to Hawaii after school and lived there for 20 years. He was an avid surfer and fisherman.

He moved back to Minneapolis in his late-30’s to be closer to his family where he lived until he passed away.

Jay was preceded in death by his mother, Betty, and his brother, Tim.

Terry Lynn Mackenzie, 54, lived in Plymouth, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her daughter Michelle and parents Benjamin and Gertrude Witte.

Terry enjoyed life. She loved to laugh and have fun. She was dedicated to her family and friends.

We feel so lucky to have had her in our lives. She was passionate about her animals and was committed to helping the Humane Society. Terry volunteered her time to better the community in which she lived. She passed on March 11, 2008 at the young age of 54.

Terry is truly missed. The memories and the person she was leaves us smiling.
